On Every Street (1991) was Dire Straits' final studio album, and it showed the band at its most refined. It came six years after Brothers in Arms. Mark Knopfler's guitar playing is as smooth and expressive as ever, and it runs through a mix of styles: the steady groove of "Calling Elvis", the swagger of "Heavy Fuel", the country feel of "The Bug", and the slow, beautiful title track. It's an album for evening listening, and it rewards a good system.

This 35th-anniversary edition is a European pressing on two LPs. It was half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios, so you get a warmer, more detailed sound from a record that was already known for its excellent production.
